When should you convert HEIC to PNG?

Each input must be at most 50 MiB. When file-header dimensions can be read, images above 45 megapixels are blocked; warnings appear above 20 MiB or 24 megapixels. On phones, use smaller batches if memory is limited.

Convert HEIF to PNG by choosing a supported .heif still. A HEIF to PNG converter must decode the image inside the HEIF container, not just recognize its extension. HEIC to PNG without losing quality: file size and transparency

HEIC to PNG without losing quality means PNG saves the decoded output pixels without an additional lossy encode. HEIC to PNG lossless does not restore details already lost in the source HEIC. For HEIC to PNG high quality results, compare dimensions and colors in the destination app. Does HEIC to PNG preserve quality? It avoids new lossy PNG compression, but HDR appearance, bit depth, color profiles and EXIF metadata are not guaranteed to carry over.

PNG photos are often larger than HEIC because PNG losslessly compresses pixels while HEIC commonly uses efficient HEVC compression. There is no fixed size multiplier. Transparent Background? Converting an ordinary HEIC photo to PNG does not remove its background. HEIC to PNG transparent background does not mean automatic background removal. HEIC to PNG transparency depends on source alpha data and decoder support; use a separate editor if you need a cutout.

Can I change .heic to .png by renaming it?

No. Renaming changes the filename, not the image encoding. Use a converter to decode the HEIC and encode a real PNG.

Will HEIC to PNG give my photo a transparent background?

No. PNG supports transparency, but converting an opaque HEIC photo does not remove its background. Use an image editor for background removal.

Will my app accept the converted PNG?

If the app accepts PNG files, usually yes. Select the newly generated PNG rather than renaming the original HEIC, and check the app's upload size limits.
