- This opaque photo does not gain transparency or background removal when saved as PNG. Transparent HEIC support is not established by this sample.
- PNG avoids an additional lossy encode of the decoded pixels; JPG is lossy. Neither restores detail lost in the earlier HEIC encoding. Check color and fine detail in your destination application.
- EXIF, orientation, profiles, HDR and Apple-specific features are not guaranteed to survive. Retain the original. The sample proves this recorded desktop Chromium workflow, not every HEIF codec or device.

How to Convert HEIC to JPG on Windows 11 and 10
If Windows Photos cannot open an iPhone HEIC or HEIF image, you can create a compatible JPG copy here without installing a Windows codec or Microsoft Store app. The selected image is processed locally in your browser.
Method 1: Convert HEIC in your browser

Method 2: Use Windows Photos when HEIC support is installed
If the Photos app opens the original HEIC, use its available Save as or export option to create a JPEG copy. If Photos requests HEIF or HEVC support, follow your approved Microsoft Store or IT support process; the exact options depend on Windows and Photos versions.

When should you convert HEIC to JPG?
JPG is usually the practical choice when compatibility matters. Older Windows apps, web forms, messaging tools, and content management systems commonly accept JPG even when they do not recognize HEIC or HEIF. Compare HEIC and JPG quality and compatibility.
JPG conversion re-encodes the image, so it is a lossy output. If you want a lossless decoded image for further editing, consider HEIC to PNG instead.
If the photo needs to be submitted or printed as a document, try HEIC to PDF. These HEIC tools also accept HEIF files.
