How to Merge or Split a Confidential PDF Without Uploading It

When a document is confidential, uploading it to an unfamiliar converter may be unacceptable. FileOnTap's Merge PDF and Split PDF tools process selected PDFs in your browser, so their contents are not sent to a FileOnTap conversion server. That is one privacy control, not a guarantee that your device or workflow is secure.

Merge PDFs locally in your browser

  1. Use a trusted, up-to-date browser on a device you control. Close unrelated tabs and avoid a shared or public computer for confidential files.
  2. Open Merge PDF and select the source PDFs from local storage.
  3. Review the file order and arrange the documents as required. Merge the files and download the result.
  4. Open the new PDF, check page order and completeness, then save it in an approved location. Delete temporary downloads according to your organization's retention rules.

Split a PDF or extract pages locally

  1. Open Split PDF and choose the local PDF.
  2. Select the available page range or split option that matches your task. Check the displayed page numbers before running it.
  3. Download the resulting PDF files and open each one to confirm the expected pages are present and excluded pages are absent.
  4. Store or share only the intended outputs. Page extraction can create a new copy, but it does not revoke access to the original document.
What ‘without upload’ means here

The selected PDF contents are read and transformed by the current browser rather than uploaded to a FileOnTap conversion server. The web page still needs an internet connection to load. Browser extensions, clipboard tools, malware, backups, downloads, screen capture, and other people with device access remain outside that processing boundary.

Use your organization's approved process

For regulated, privileged, or contract-restricted records, follow your organization's approved software and device policy. Browser-local handling is not a certification, legal assurance, or substitute for managed access controls. Keep an untouched original when records rules require it.

Check the output before sharing

  • Verify page count, order, legibility, and that excluded pages are not in the new file.
  • Review filenames and document metadata if your process requires it; merging or splitting does not automatically remove every identifier.
  • Send the output through an approved channel and to the intended recipient only.
